What To Do When Carnivorous Temptation Strikes

So you're sitting in a room, there's no one around and before you rests a heaping plate of marinated, freshly made, extra crispy, hand-battered fried chicken.  The aroma is simply intoxicating and you are being whisked away by the nose to another time-space reality.  Now it wouldn't be the least bit noticeable if you were to swipe a drumstick or two.  Heck, there's so much there that you could take a handful and no one would be the wiser.  More than that,  you'd even have time to take a few bites and discard the evidence.  You look around, inhale deeply, close your eyes and sit entranced by the vision of such an indulgence.  Then, you ask yourself, "What should I do?"

You're challenged with choosing between carnivorous desire and self-realized conquest.  After all, you don't indulge in this type of thing everyday.  In fact, its been months since you last caved.  You've been here before, and on more than a few occasions.  However, this time seems different and you get the sense that you're at a crossroads.  You're overwhelmed by carnivorous temptation while being overcome by a strong sense of allegiance to uphold your vegan principles.  Yet, the later prevails and you kindly and compassionately step away from the chicken, honoring the life that it once was and embracing the life that is as you head over to the tossed green salad.

Even in an alternate reality populated with iconic vegans, we would have all admittedly been here more than a few times, at least until the cravings subsided.  Yet, contrary to popular belief, being a newly transitioned vegan takes an exceptionally strong will.  That's why very few aspiring vegans ever make the cut long-term.  That's also why those who do are some of the most dynamic, determined and compelling people that you'll ever come across.  Just look at Olympic track and field star, Carl Lewis, who had one of his best performing years ever as a vegan.  The determination required to overcome cravings and temptations, withstand the judgement of others, defy popular belief about health and nutrition and sometimes even alienate close friends and loved ones who reject your vegan principles is just short of unfathomable to say the least.

Suffice it to say that the early phases of veganism is one of the most difficult things that you will ever endure.  Nonetheless, you have the comfort of knowing that you will surface prominently on the other side because many before you have done the same.  More than that, your journey as a vegan has made you unshakable, unconquerable, and nothing short of herculean so take pride and persist.
