Social Media is one of the best ways to launch a product or event online because you can use it for creating a buzz along with massive visibility. Instead of just putting things out there willy-nilly it is better to have a concrete plan of attack. With a specific plan you can document your results and then tweak it, if necessary, for future launches. It goes without saying, but I will say it anyway, your product must be of very high quality. You must over deliver or this process will only work one time.
Step 1 - Create Your Infrastructure - To use Social Media for marketing your product you will need at a minimum, a Facebook account, Twitter account, LinkedIn account and a blog. A Tweetlater account will also make your life much easier. Make sure you have your shopping cart or PayPal account in place to collect funds. You also need to have your systems in place to send autoresponders to your list. The other pieces you will need outside the scope of this article are landing pages and thank you pages.
Step2 - Create a Timeline - Develop a specific timeline listing all the dates for your launch. Start with your Product Launch date and work backwards. Let's say, for example, your Product Launch date is May 1st. You need to then establish a Marketing Launch date. How far apart those dates should be depends on several factors but for this example let's pick April 1st. This gives you one month to create a buzz using Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, Blogs, Blog Talk Radio, or Teleseminars. It will take at least another month to get all the other pieces in place so you need to begin your marketing plan by March 1st at the latest.
Step 2a - Add your specific marketing campaign dates to your timeline such as a free teleseminar dates, blog talk radio shows, and interviews. Now add the dates to begin advertising those events with autoresponders, Facebook and Twitter.
Step 3 - Write all your copy in advance. You will want a Blog posts on the Marketing Launch date and then 1 per week till the Product Launch date when the sales page goes live. Get your details ready for your Facebook event page too so you can just plug the info in on the Marketing Launch day. Write your autoresponder messages to send to your list. Also pre-write at least 10 Tweets to plug into Tweetlater so you don't have to remember to do that every day, Write the copy for your Facebook Fan page for the Marketing Launch and then at least 1 post per week till the Product Launch day. Pre-write Marketing messages to send your Facebook fans.
Step 4 - Build Anticipation - On the Marketing Launch day it is time to really leverage the Social Media networks by enlisting the help of some friends to get the word out. The more visible those friends are online the better. If you have a relationship with any prominent Social Media gurus they can help lend credibility to your product or event. If you know anyone with a large following who will write a blog post or Tweet about the product at the right moment that would be wonderful.
Step 5 - Distribute Your Pre-written Marketing Messages The best way to get your friends to follow through is to make their work as easy as possible. Send them a copy of your blog post with all the links intact so they can follow your example and just cut out your copy and paste in theirs. Give them a schedule of what you would like them to do. Send them a copy of your 10 Tweets so they can change them slightly and paste them into their own Tweetlater accounts. If they have agreed to email their list send out a sample email with the details about the landing page. Test all your links first!
Step 6 - The Marketing Launch day Make sure everything goes live at once for massive visibility. The Marketing Launch landing page for a free teleseminar, Event page on Facebook, announcements and Blog posts by friends, the fan page announcement, messages to your fans, the first autoresponder to your list, and your first Blog talk radio show should all happen at the same time. Over the next month keep up the momentum with different types of marketing messages on all your sites.
Step 7 - The Product Sales Launch Day - This should actually be the easiest part of the plan. Publish your sales page. Begin your sales autoresponder series to your list. Don't forget to test all your links first. Watch the profits roll in!
