If you're struggling with obesity, and you're looking for a way to see fast results, then something you may have considered is "starving" yourself by eating far less food than you usually do, or even cutting out food entirely. If so, this article is going to explain to you why starving yourself won't work - and why it's an extremely bad idea to do this.
Specifically, we're going to talk about why people do this, why it can never work, and finally I will show you a healthier alternative. By the time you have finished reading this article, you'll understand why starving yourself is not the answer, and what you should do instead.
So let's begin by looking at the reasons why people consider starving themselves. Firstly, it's lack of information. Someone who attempts this simply doesn't understand how the body works when it comes to losing and storing weight. It's also desperation. When you're very overweight, the task of losing weight slowly and healthily can be depressing. We live in a world of instant gratification. We want things now.
But starving yourself can never work. Why? Because by severely reducing your calorie intake, your body compensates by activating the "survival mechanism" and storing fat and conserving energy to protect you from starvation - or at least delaying it.
Think about it. This makes sense. The process of evolution has developed our body's survival instincts to burn less calories and store energy for as long as possible if our food supply is suddenly cut short. Of course, eventually you will lose weight - but you will be malnourished, lack energy, possibly cause more severe problems, and generally feel terrible.
So what's the healthy alternative? The best thing to do is lose weight the natural way. How? By cleaning your diet. Cut out the unhealthy foods and snacks. A good general guide is to avoid processed foods as much as possible.
Also, begin an exercise program. It's a good idea to consult your doctor first, to check your obesity isn't being caused by an underlying health problem. But if you're all clear, exercise is the best way to burn those excess calories and start feeling fitter and healthier. You will need to begin with light cardio work. Then progress to higher intensity, and longer aerobic workouts. An exercise bike or elliptical can be a good idea, as it puts little strain on your joints and ligaments - but still allows for a great fat-burning workout.
