Herbal Therapy By Use Of Phytomedicinals

Plant medicines or more commonly known as phytomedicinals, in these United States are generally self-prescribed. Very few physicians are educated in this form of medicine even though herbs are considered to be one of the oldest forms of medicine in use today. In many other countries in the world, this is the exact opposite. Herbal therapy is routinely used to prescribe a herbal remedy in almost every treatment program as the 1st line of choice in medical treatments.. This ultimately saves the patient money and often an entire menu of adverse side effects.

What Is An Herb

Many plants, when broken down into their chemical properties can be used for health and healing. This could include the use of the leaves, stem, roots, bark, fruit or seeds which ultimately get used for either medicinal or culinary purposes.

Yet many doctors of conventional medicine do scoff at using herbs for a prescribed treatment, somehow forgetting that some of the prime medications they use daily are from the plant kingdom. Digoxin for the heart, morphine for pain, valerian as a mild sedative, penicillin as an antibiotic or even aspirin as an all-purpose pain reliever is in this list plus many others all do originate from plants.

Although conventional medicine today tends to dismiss herbal therapy as of little value, patient pressure for more effective treatments without the high cost of pharmaceutical drugs, has many doctors realizing that herbal therapy does have options available as good or even better than standard medical treatments.
