Diabetes seems to be so common and a very popular ailment in our present world. SO much has been said about it and the awareness campaign has been enormous but yet the fear of acquiring diabetes Mellitus has led so many individuals/families to the wrong lifestyle. Unfortunately, a good percentage of this category of people still end up getting the ailment, but why? The preventive method of acquiring diabetes is one of the simplest preventive therapies of all ailments.
Â
Our focus would be on the non-genetic Diabetes Mellitus, be it Type 1 or Type 2. Diabetes Mellitus is the increase in blood-sugar level, due to insufficiency of Insulin amount in the body (as in type 1) or inability of receptors to identify the protein Insulin (as in type 2). What scares people the most is the 'sugar'. Due to this, individuals (especially in African regions) stop taking simple sugars but still acquire the disease. Why is this so?
Â
Sugar is not only referred to the sucrose produced by some manufacturing company for us to use. We eat lots of carbohydrates which are broken down into simple sugars by necessary enzymes of the digestive system. So, if you avoid the mere sugar you take, you can still accumulate metabolic sugars which are even more dangerous because a larger percentage can be stored. So, preventing the intake of simple sugars does not actually change anything especially if 60-90% or even more of your daily food constituents is carbohydrates.
Â
W.H.O (World Health organization) recommends walking a distance of 10km per week and you'll be able to burn off the excess glucose/glycogen stored by your body system. If you can do this, then you live a normal Life. Enjoy your normal recipes and avoid unnecessary restrictions to your favorite dishes. That is not to say you should be careless in the way you eat. But constant balanced diet with exercise helps burn off the sugars in the body system.
Â
Other secondary causes leading to Diabetes Mellitus include Obesity, hypertension, elevated cholesterol (combined hyperlipidemia) and mostly environmental factors which if we consider critically, can be avoided by constant exercise and activities. More emphases is laid on exercise here because if you engage in exercise regularly, you can still escape from the risk of diabetes regardless of your carbohydrate consumption, but if you do not exercise at all and control your diet, there is the possibility of a gradual accumulation of sugars.
Â
Exercise the body regularly to burn off the excess glucose or glycogen which could increase your risk of diabetes. It is very simple and an inexpensive preventive therapy of diabetes.
