The most critical age in the life of a person is his/her childhood, especially the first few years after birth. It is the time when child is not immune to many diseases, and thus has a higher chance of falling prey to many diseases. The child is weak and is unable to fight off disease which causes germs, and thus becomes sick very easily. Many childhood diseases become very dangerous very quickly, and due to the weak immune system of the child, the speed at which the disease develops is very fast.
Many parents worry about their children for this very reason and their worries are not wrong as this is indeed a critical age for children, and therefore they demand high levels of care and attention. Children with some sort of complicated births or who are weak at birth are at a higher risk of falling prey to childhood diseases than normal children and thus demand even more care and attention.
However, this should not worry the parents too much as most children get through their early stages without getting any serious illnesses. Nevertheless, every parent should always be prepared to deal with any kind of illness and should always be vigilant. Any signs of disease should not be treated lightly, and proper medical examination should be conducted where necessary to get hold of diseases before it become dangerous.
Prevention is always better than cure, and parents should try their very best to take all necessary precautions to prevent their children from falling prey to such illnesses. Breastfeeding is very important for children because the milk of the mother helps in creating immunity in the children against diseases causing germs. The milk contains leucocytes which are cells that contain pure antibodies which help children fight against germs.
Many diseases such as measles, mumps, polio, herpes, hepatitis, some kinds of pneumonia, etc have lower chances of being developed in children who are breastfeed. Although, breastfeeding provides a great protection for children, there are still some diseases which might develop in young children even with breastfeeding.
Therefore, several vaccinations have been invented to protect children from any disease and viral infections. There are several vaccinations which are given to children at birth and several others are given at later stages as they grow up or as they are deemed to be necessary. Getting these vaccinations for your children is the best protection a parent can offer to his/her children.
A clean environment should also be provided to the children to prevent any infection from developing. For children who are used to pacifiers, their pacifiers should be washed carefully, and also the nipples of milk bottles should be cleaned thoroughly to prevent any germs from entering the body via this source.
Another reason why children get sick is because of their exposure to viral infections in case of socialisation. If you have to place you child in day care due to some reason, then he/she might get an infection from there. Also, if the child has some elder siblings then they might also be the source of infection. Any symptoms of development of infection or any unusual behaviour of the child must be taken into consideration and a doctor should be consulted as soon as possible.
