In Starcraft 2, the zealot, which should be considered as any typical tier 1 infantry unit, is one of the easiest units in your rival's arsenal that you can handle. That's the reason why zealot rush counter just require you to be well-prepared for an extremely basic Protoss attack. In other words, defending is simply a matter of preparation and some fundamental knowledge. It's my recommendation for any gamer in Starcraft 2 to anticipate that just like what you might act, your opponent may trigger a rush, or if it's not the case, you should make it happen yourself.
As Terran, recovering is as simple as having your base blocked in with a few simple infantry units to keep the Zealots out. This is a textbook play in the Terran arsenal and makes for a simple and effective zealot rush counter. Keep your units up towards the front of the base and make sure you don't have any holes in your wall. In addition, keep an SCV ready to repair any time there is trouble.
As Zerg, make your spine crawlers and queen a primary authority as a zealot rush counter. This needs to be done especially early as zealots are a tier one unit that can be quickly massed and sent in with little regard. Make absolutely sure you do not get exposed to a rush without having a few spine crawlers ready to deflect any ground units in the area and your queen as well to help provide an effective zealot rush counter.
As Protoss, the counter to a zealot rush is as simple as more zealots and more photon cannons. Zealots don't respond well to photon cannons, especially before they can research charge. A good zealot rush counter should simply consist of a few quick and simple tactics of baiting the zealots towards cannons with a few zealots of your own. If you have stalkers, even better! Zealots do not fare well against any unit with range, so keep them in your arsenal when formulating an effective zealot rush counter.
